Achieving diet quality by consuming a balance of nutrient-dense food groups is foundational for promoting lifelong health and wellness. Yet, the majority of Americans do not consume nutritionally adequate diets, and pervasive inequities in nutrition security and diet-related chronic diseases persist among people of varying race and ethnicity, socioeconomic status, geographic region and more. Identifying and understanding evidence-based solutions to promote nutrition and public health across diverse populations is essential to achieve equitable health and wellness for all Americans. This session will discuss the current body of science on the impact of nutrient-dense foods as part of healthy eating patterns to close gaps in nutrition security and health equity. A special focus on current barriers to adoption of healthy eating and opportunities for evidence-based strategies and interventions to address health disparities will be featured.

As a checkoff organization, National Dairy Council does not and cannot attempt to influence policy.
