ASN’s series of Fireside Chats with the ASN President, Dr. Sarah L. Booth, Director of the Jean Mayer USDA Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging at Tufts University (HNRCA) and Senior Scientist and Leader of the Vitamin K Team at the HNRCA, feature Dr. Booth interviewing influential leaders in nutrition. These Fireside Chats will spark additional multisector, interdisciplinary conversations and ideas that advance the field of nutrition science in innovative ways among audience participants. Attendees have the opportunity to submit their own interview questions after they register.
The Fireside Chat on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, at 2:00 PM ET will feature Patrick Webb, PhD, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID)’s Chief Nutritionist, as well as Dr. Booth, to discuss Advancing Global Nutrition. Dr. Webb is one of the world’s most influential voices working at the intersection of food policy, climate change, and nutrition, as well as on emergency humanitarian assistance. The discussion will highlight the focus of a new global initiative aimed at improving nutrition and food security by promoting neglected ‘opportunity crops’ (the Vision for Adapted Crops and Soils) and other initiatives from the Feed the Future Food Systems for Nutrition Innovation Lab. Dr. Webb will share how this initiative aims to help enhance diets and measurable nutrition outcomes. The conversation will also touch on Dr. Webb’s research with humanitarian policy and practice, development policy, micronutrient deficiencies, food system transformation, food safety, and nutrition in all its forms, as well as his extensive experience working in developing countries.
Future Fireside Chats will cover topics including FDA’s Nutrition Center of Excellence and reducing sodium consumption.
