Sponsored Satellite Program: Yogurt and Reduced Risk of Type 2 Diabetes: Exploring the New FDA Qualified Health Claim and Potential Implications for Improving Public Health
Sponsored By: Danone North America
This Sponsored Satellite Program was originally presented at NUTRITION 2024, ASN's flagship meeting which was held June 29 to July 2, 2024 in Chicago, IL.
Join us to discuss the role of yogurt in reducing the risk of type 2 diabetes. Type 2 diabetes is a significant threat to public health as it is one of the leading causes of death in the US, with around 1.2 million Americans newly diagnosed each year. The Food and Drug Administration recently announced a new qualified health claim recognizing the potential link between yogurt consumption and a reduced risk of type 2 diabetes. The new claim states that “Eating yogurt regularly, at least 2 cups (3 servings) per week, may reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes according to limited scientific evidence.” During this session, our expert speakers will explain the process of reviewing FDA-regulated claims, explore the robust body of research analyzed in relation to the new qualified health claim, and discuss the education needs and concerns of Americans to support public health and impact future nutrition policy.
