Sponsored Satellite Program: Time for an Update - Nutrients in the DRI Waiting Room

Sponsored By: Council for Responsible Nutrition, GOED

In 2013, the Federal DRI Steering Committees (SCs) created a nomination process to help identify candidate nutrients for future DRI reviews. Nutrient nominations were limited to nutrients that had undergone a previous IOM DRI review. Several criteria were established to prioritize eligible nutrients, building on the criteria established for the calcium and vitamin D review with a focus on chronic disease endpoints. The DRI SCs determined that four nutrients were worthy of future assessment: sodium, omega-3 fatty acids (EPA+DHA), vitamin E and magnesium. Only sodium has received a DRI review. This session will address the accumulated evidence-base of the three remaining nutrients nominated for DRI review and why it is a public health imperative to update these nutrient DRIs.

This Sponsored Satellite Program was originally presented at NUTRITION 2021 LIVE ONLINE.
