Sponsored Satellite Program: Specialized Pro-Resolving Mediators (SPMs) and Their Role in Actively Resolve Inflammation: Physiological Mechanisms and Immune-Nutrition Solutions for the Increasing Challenge of Inflammatory Health Conditions
Sponsored By: Azur Global Nutrition
Inflammation, specifically unresolved or uncontrolled inflammation, is widely recognized as a critical component of 75% of human chronic diseases, including CVD, atherosclerosis, metabolic syndrome, cancer, osteoarticular health or infection, like the one we are witnessing because of SARS-CoV-2.
Recent research has led to a greater understanding of the acute inflammatory response and the essential role of “specialized pro-resolving mediators” (SPMs) in actively resolving inflammation. SPMs are the active metabolites from EPA and DHA biosynthesized endogenously and are involved in the body’s normal physiological pathways of inflammation, restoring the tissue environment to its normal condition after immune activation and positively influencing infection, pain and tissue and organ protection.
During the session we will review the physiological mechanisms that determine the active termination or resolution of the inflammatory response together with the role of SPMs, and we will discuss the latest knowledge on Covid-19 infectious inflammation as well as the recent data published in humans after SPM supplementation.
This Sponsored Satellite Program was presented at NUTRITION 2021 LIVE ONLINE.
Learning Objectives
- Describe the active role of SPMs in resolving inflammation
