ASN is pleased to announce a new GEM (Group Engaging Members) aimed at connecting physicians to advance the practice and impact of nutrition in medicine. ASN’s GEMs provide members with the unique opportunity to connect with colleagues and peers, learn and share about their expertise, and stay up to date on ASN initiatives relative to their professional interests.
New Physician Nutrition GEM
This new GEM, named the Physician Nutrition GEM, provides a professional home for physicians, physician-scientists, trainees, and medical students who seek to integrate nutrition into clinical care, education, and research. The group fosters collaboration across medical specialties, promotes the use of evidence-based nutrition in medical practice, and offers opportunities for peer learning and professional development.
Through networking, mentorship, and education, the group supports physicians and trainees in translating nutrition science into patient care, strengthening the physician voice within ASN, and advancing the role of nutrition across the continuum of health care. The Physician GEM complements the work of the Medical Nutrition Council by focusing specifically on the physician perspective and on applying nutrition knowledge in clinical and practice settings, while inspiring and training the next generation of physician leaders in nutrition.
The Physician Nutrition GEM is chaired by Zhaoping Li, MD, PhD. Dr. Li is the Lynda and Stewart Resnick Endowed Chair in Human Nutrition, Professor and Chief of the Division of Clinical Nutrition in the Department of Medicine at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. She is also the Chair of Medicine at the Greater Los Angeles VA Health System and is the Director of the multidisciplinary UCLA Center for Human Nutrition.
“With the rising nutrition-related chronic diseases, clinical nutrition is more important today than ever to play an essential role in not only disease prevention and but also treatment. ASN's new Physician Nutrition GEM provides physicians who share common interests with a professional home where we can work together to make impact on modern health challenges, lifestyles, and healthcare systems.”
- Dr. Zhaoping Li
