Building an NHANES for the Future

This session focuses on the importance of the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) and analysis of its data to the field of nutrition science and the critical need to identify priorities for the future of NHANES to ensure its sustainability and efficacy moving forward. NHANES is challenged by increasing costs, decreasing response rates, small sample sizes that are not representative of the U.S. population, limited time and funds for innovation, and increasing health and nutrition data needs. A recent article in he American Journal of Clinical Nutrition discusses these challenges and possible ways to move forward. Join an esteemed panel of experts for a discussion on the current status of NHANES, evolving the nutrition core of NHANES, and nutrition needs and strategies for modernizing NHANES. This activity was organized by ASN's Committee on Advocacy and Science Policy (CASP).

Originally presented at NUTRITION 2023, ASN's flagship meeting which was held July 22-25, 2023 in Boston, MA.
