There is an urgent need for global food systems transformation to realize a future where the health of people and the planet reaches its full potential. Paramount to this vision is the ability of stakeholders across sectors to understand how dietary choices impact food systems throughout all domains of sustainability. While significant steps have been made to measure and evaluate how our food supply impacts environmental sustainability, employment of metrics and indicators to understand the complementary roles of nutrition/health, economics and/or societal considerations within this context is lacking.

This session discusses the role of plant- and animal-source nutrition on population health, with a focus on frameworks that can help accurately capture these important contributions. Limitations and best practices for designing frameworks to better reflect unintended trade-offs that need to be considered will be discussed.
