Sponsored Satellite Program: The State of the Science of Protein, Satiety, and Body Weight
Sponsored By: General Mills Bell Institute of Health and Nutrition
This Sponsored Satellite Program was originally presented at NUTRITION 2025, ASN's flagship meeting which was held May 31 to June 3 in Orlando, FL.
This session delivers an overview of dietary recommendations of protein, current protein intakes, various sources of protein and how it’s labeled on packaging. This session also examines the latest research on protein intake and its influence on weight loss and weight maintenance, including the science behind protein's impact on satiety, exploring how it helps regulate appetite, impacts metabolism, and influences lean muscle mass. We’ll conclude with emerging research on behavior modifications such as protein timing and exercise, and where more research is needed.
Learning Objectives
- Identify the current dietary recommendations for protein, population intakes, food sources of protein and how protein is labeled on packaging
- Describe the scientific basis for protein's impact on satiety and its role in appetite regulation and body weight
- Identify the recommended protein intake for weight loss and discuss the potential benefits of increasing protein consumption
